Entering the many classes and competitions is easy and free and you don’t need to to be a resident of Frenchay to enter – anyone can bring their exhibits to display at the show.

The full list of classes can be found below. All classes are free to enter.

There are over 150 classes to enter with 27 trophies to be won. The classes range from traditional vegetables, fruit and flowers to cakes, jams, and savoury flans. Not forgetting to mention beekeeping, photography, arts and handicrafts, and the fantastic display of arranged cut flowers. So there is something for everyone, including 29 classes for children and local schools to enter. And all entries are Free! All you have to do is submit an Entry Form in advance so that we know how many entries to expect. 

The Show Committee appeals to the generosity of Exhibitors to leave as much produce as possible for the Auction Sale at approximately 5pm on show day. 

Winners will receive a trophy or certificate, and children will also receive a ribbon rosette.

How to Get An Entry Form

  • Entry form can also be collected from Monday 3rd June from the Frenchay Museum – although these are limited supplies and usually go quickly.

Returning and submitting your entry form

 Entry forms for all classes must be submitted by 6.00pm on Wednesday 10 July 2024.  

  • Forms can be completed by hand and returned to the Show Entry Form Boxes located at,
    • Frenchay Museum. 1 Begbrook Park, Frenchay, Winterbourne, Bristol BS16 1SZ

Completed entry forms can also be posted by Royal Mail (please ensure the envelope has a stamp) to the same address at Frenchay Flower Show, Frenchay Museum. 1 Begbrook Park, Frenchay, Winterbourne, Bristol BS16 1SZ.

Bringing your Exhibits to the Show

Having submitted your entry form by 6.00pm on Wed 10th July, you should then bring your exhibits and competition entries to the Floral Marquee on either,

  • Friday 12 July between 4.00pm to 8.00pm.
  • Saturday 13 July, on the morning of the show, between 8.00am and 10.00am (at the latest).

You will be issued with your personal exhibit cards by one of our friendly stewards when you arrive at the Floral Marquee with your exhibits. You will then be directed to where you can place and stage you exhibits.

Photographic Entries

The maximum size for all photographic entries is 130mm x 180mm (5”x 7”).

Photographs must not be mounted or framed.

Not more than one entry per person per class.

Please put your name on the back of all photographs.

Entrants must display their photographic entries between Friday 12 July between 4.00pm to 8.00pm or Saturday 13 July, on the morning of the show, between 8.00am and 10.00am (at the latest). Adhesive Velcro dots will be provided to help display photographic entries to the display boards.

Submission of forms

Entry forms for all classes must be submitted by 6.00pm on Wednesday 10 July 2024.

HELPFUL HINTS

PLEASE READ THE SHOW RULES. If anything is not clear please ask the Show Secretary for clarification.

Allow plenty of time to arrange your exhibits. Start on Friday evening if possible. Exhibits must be finished by 10.00am on Saturday.  Arrange each exhibit attractively. Flowers should be cut with long stalks put straight into deep water (e.g. a bucket or jug) until needed.  Flowers may be partially arranged at home or packed carefully and arranged at the Show.  Leave short stalks on soft fruit.

Guidance and useful tips on how to display exhibits to best effect can be found on several authoritative flower show and gardening websites on the internet. Making the best of your exhibits is important and will be taken into account by the judges.

SHOW RULES

  1. RESPONSIBILITY. The Show Committee will not be responsible for any loss or damage to exhibits or personal property. Exhibitors must provide all material for staging including dishes, bowls and vases.  Benching only will be provided except where otherwise stated. Exhibitors wishing to retain their exhibits must remove them between 4.00pm and 4.30pm but NOT BEFORE 4.00pm.  Exhibits not  removed by 4.30pm will be sold at the 5.pm Show Auction for the benefit of  Show funds.
  2. OWNERSHIP OF EXHIBITS. All exhibits in the Vegetable, Fruit and Flower classes must the property of the exhibitor and must have been grown on their land (garden, allotment). Exhibits in the Food, Beekeeping, Handicrafts, Children’s and Floral Arrangement sections must be the work of the Exhibitor.  Exhibits in the Photographic Section must have been taken by the Exhibitor but professional processing is allowed.  Exhibits in the Handicrafts Section must not have been shown in previous years.
  3. STAGING. Exhibits may be staged between 4.00pm and 8.00pm on the evening before the show and between 8am and 10.00am on the day of the Show at which latter time all persons, except those retained by the Show Committee for official duties must leave the exhibition areas (Friends Meeting House & marquee on adjacent common). From 10.00am to 4.00pm no exhibit may be altered or removed except with permission of the Show Secretary.
  4. RIGHT OF ENTRY. Exhibitors and competitors do not need to live in the Frenchay area to enter. Frenchay Flower Show is an open competition.
  5. EXHIBIT CARDS. Exhibit Cards can be obtainable from the Show Secretary’s Office in the Floral Marquee between 4.00pm and 8.00pm on the eve of the show and between 8.00am and 10.00am on the morning of the show. Exhibit cards must be shown by each exhibit staged and exhibitors will be responsible for placing these cards and checking the particulars entered on them. Children’s Section Entries must bear the child’s age on the reverse of the Exhibit Card.
  6. PRIZES. Multiple entries are allowed but no exhibitor may take more than one prize in any class. Judges may withhold trophies or prizes where exhibits are not of sufficient merit.  Prize cards must not be removed before 4.00 pm on the day of the Show.
  7. DECISIONS. The Show Committee reserves the right to refuse any entry without giving any reason or explanation. Decision of the Judges to the relative merits of each entry or exhibit shall be final. Decision of the Show Committee shall be final on all matters connected with the show.
  8. PROTESTS. Any protest must be delivered in writing to the Show Secretary within one hour of the Show being open to the public. A protest must be accompanied by a deposit of £10, which will be refunded if the protest is upheld, but not otherwise.
  9. NAMING OF EXHIBITS. Judges will take into account the correct naming of varieties.
  10. VASES. A vase is a container which has greater height than its diameter at the mouth. (See RHS Rules)
  11. THE ALLOTMENT CHALLENGE CUP. To take part in this challenge, entrants must be allotment holders and must name their allotment association on their entry forms. Exhibits must have been grown on the entrant’s allotment.
