Entering the many classes and competitions is easy and free!

And you don’t need to be a resident of Frenchay to enter. Exhibits and competitions are open to all

Paper entry forms will also be available from 1st June from the Frenchay Museum at 1 Begbrook Park, Frenchay, BS16 1SZ.

BRINGING YOUR EXHIBITS TO THE SHOW

Please bring your exhibits to the Main Marquee on either:

  • Friday 10 July between 4.00pm to 7.30pm. (Except for food items)
  • Or Saturday 11 July, between 8am and 9.45am.

You will then be issued with your personal exhibit cards and number by one of our friendly stewards at the marquee and they will show you where to place and stage your exhibits.

ALL vehicles MUST be off the show site by 10.00am allowing the show to open safely and on time.

Judging will take place between 10.00am – 12.00pm

The public are not permitted into the marquees during judging.

Exhibits cannot be removed from the marquees before 4.00pm.

All exhibits not removed by 4.30pm will be sold at our auction

with all proceeds going to charity.

 

PLEASE READ THE RULES and ask the Show Secretary about anything which is not clear.

SHOW RULES

1. RESPONSIBILITY. The Show Committee will not be responsible for any loss or damage to exhibits or personal property. This is at the owner’s risk. Exhibitors must provide all material for staging including dishes, bowls and vases.  Only tables and benching will be provided, except where otherwise stated. Exhibitors wishing to retain their exhibits must remove them between 4.00pm and 4.30pm, but NOT BEFORE 4.00pm.  Exhibits not removed by 4.30pm will be sold at the Auction for the benefit of charitable funds.

2. OWNERSHIP OF EXHIBITS. All exhibits in the Vegetable, Fruit and Flower Classes must be the property of the exhibitor and must have been grown on land in his/her/their occupation; at home, garden or allotment. House plants and potted plants must have been grown from seed or owned by the exhibitor for at least 3 months prior to the show. Exhibits in the Food, Beekeeping, Handicrafts, Children’s and Floral Arrangement Sections must be the work of the Exhibitor.  Exhibits in the Photographic Section must have been taken by the Exhibitor, but professional processing is allowed.  Exhibits in the Handicrafts Section must not have been shown in previous years.

3. STAGING. Exhibits may be staged between 4.00pm and 7.30pm on the evening before the show and between 8.00am and 9.45am on the day of the Show at which latter time all persons, except those retained by the Show Committee for official duties must leave the exhibition areas. (From 10.00am to 4.00pm no exhibit may be altered or removed except with permission of the Show Secretary. Please see RHS Guidelines on their website if more information is required.

4. RIGHT OF ENTRY. You do not need to live in Frenchay to enter, the competitions are open to all. The Show Committee reserves the right to refuse any entry without giving any reason or explanation.

5. EXHIBIT CARDS. Exhibit Cards can be obtainable from the Show Secretary’s Office in the Main Marquee between 4pm and 7.30pm on the eve of the show and between 8.00am and 9.45am on the morning of the show. Exhibit cards must be placed by each exhibit staged and exhibitors will be responsible for placing these cards and checking the particulars entered on them.

Children’s Section Entries must bear the child’s age on the reverse of the Exhibit Card.

6. PRIZES. You may only win one trophy, award or prize per Class. Judges may withhold any or all the prizes where exhibits are not of sufficient merit.  Prize cards must not be removed before 4.00 pm on the day of the Show.

7. DECISIONS. The decision of the Judges shall be final as to the relative merits and the decision of the Show Committee shall be final on all matters connected with the show.

8. PROTESTS. Any protest must be delivered in writing to the Show Secretary within one hour of the exhibition marquee being open to the public. A protest must be accompanied by a deposit of £5.00, which will be refunded if the protest is upheld, but not otherwise.

9. NAMING OF EXHIBITS. Judges will take into account the correct naming of varieties.

10. VASES. A vase is a container which has greater height than its diameter at the mouth. (See RHS Rules)

11. THE ALLOTMENT CHALLENGE CUP. To take part in this challenge, entrants must be allotment holders and must name their allotment association on their entry forms. Exhibits must have been grown on the entrant’s allotment.

12. All Trophies are held for 12 months. They remain the property of Frenchay Flower Show and must be returned to the Show Secretary by 1st June of the year following that in which they were won.

Flower Arranging

200      NOVICE CLASS – A display using flowers recognised as excellent for pollinators; display on a hexagonal base or container. Space allowed 25 cms wide x 25 cms deep. (A novice is an exhibitor who has not won the first prize in any flower arranging class at the Frenchay Flower Show).

201      CLUB OR GROUP EXHIBIT – ON THE BEACH – suggesting a seascape.

Space allowed 61 cms wide x 61 cms deep. Height is optional.

202      DRIED FLOWERS ONLY. An exhibit featuring only dried flowers – Space allowed 45cms wide x 45 cms deep

203      FLOWER DUET – Feature 2 colours (foliage also permitted). Space allowed 45cms x 45cms

204      THEMED – New A FLOWER MEADOW – use mainly wild, hedgerow or meadow flowers. Accessories of bees, honey, hives etc accepted. Space allowed 45cms x 45cmsheight optional

205      A CORSAGE – a small bouquet worn at the shoulder or wrist.

206      A BUTTONHOLE – a floral decoration worn on the lapel of a jacket.

207      FLORISTRY EXTRAVAGANZA. At least 5 varieties of fresh flowers (foliage also permitted). Staged on open tables to be viewed and judged from the front. 71 cms x  71cms (height optional).

ON A THEME RELATED TO BEES & POLLINATORS

Exhibit to include:

  1. An item of cookery (sweet or savoury excluding preserves).
  2. A Flower Arrangement.
  3. An item of Craftwork OR
  4. A Preserve (sweet or savoury) OR a second item from any of 1-3 above.
  5. A Decorative, numbered and itemised list of the items 1-4 above, headed with your chosen theme.

Each item on the table to be judged must be numbered (1-5) and where there is an alternative (3&4) state which one is applicable alongside the number (ie. whether Craft or Art work). 20 marks available for each item 1 to 4 and 20 marks available for staging, to include item 5, taking into account presentation, colour, co-ordination and interpretation of your theme.

 

Photographic Section

Photographs must not be mounted. Max size 13cms x 18cms. No more than one entry per person per class. Please note that although care is taken photographs may be damaged by display method. Please write your name and class number on the back of each photo.
